12 Crafts of Christmas 2021: Day 9 Christmas Tree Friendship Bracelet

Hello everyone!

Today is day 9 of 12 Crafts of Christmas and it’s also the Winter Solstice here in the northern hemisphere which means we’ve made it to the shortest day of the year and brighter days are ahead.

Making friendship bracelets is another of my favourite hobbies, knotting the strings is so relaxing and I really enjoy trying to create my own patterns and designs.

This year I created a Christmas Tree design, which uses just 2 colours and 10 strings! Head over to my page, LilacDaisy on The BraceletBook and click on pattern #112287 for the interactive instructions as well as a printable version.

My Christmas Tree Bracelet Pattern:

There are different ways to go about starting and finishing your bracelets, and the size will depend on how tight you knot and how big your wrist is. As a guide I’m going to talk you through how I make mine ☺️

How I make my bracelets:

For this bracelet I used DMC embroidery floss that came in a friendship kit. I fold my strings in half, so I use 5 instead of 10. Wrapping the thread around my wrist 11 times I cut 3 strings of pale blue and 2 strings of green.

Holding all 5 strings together, fold over at the middle and knot so that you have a loop at the top.

I then masking tape the loop to a tray and arrange the strings so that they are in the order of line 1 of the pattern.

I then begin knotting following the pattern, starting from the two knots on left side of the row, then the two knots on the right, and finishing with the centre knot on the odd rows.

I continue working through the rows of the pattern, then once I reach row 10, I start the pattern again from row 1 and repeat the pattern until the bracelet wraps around my wrist.

Once the bracelet was long enough for my wrist, which was 12 Christmas trees, I knotted off the strings at the bottom. I then pulled up one string in the centre and threaded it through the holes of a button, before knotting the string on to the nearest loose string 3 times to make it secure.

To fasten the bracelet, I wrapped it around my wrist and pulled the loop from the start over the button.

I hope you enjoyed today’s craft! Have you made friendship bracelets before? Let me know in the comments below.
