This summer went by so quickly, but I’m so excited that it’s now autumn! Strictly’s started, it’s getting colder so it’s time for cosy sweaters and hot chocolate. I feel like this summer has been one of my favourites, so without further ado here are some of the things I’ve been loving this summer!
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation
I’ve tried a few different foundations and so far, this has been my favourite! It has a light consistency and medium to high coverage. The shade 095 (I’m pale I know haha 😂) matches my skin tone perfectly and blends smoothly and easily. This foundation is perfect for me and has become a staple of my everyday makeup routine and it was especially great for the summer as it’s so light it barely feels like you have any makeup on! When I’ve finished my makeup, I use the Maybelline Dream Satin Mist to set it, which really works for me and feels much better than powder in the hot weather.
Jeans are a classic staple of my wardrobe, they are great for any weather or occasion and go well with practically everything. One trend I’ve been loving this season is embroidery! I found these jeans at H&M and I’m so glad that they turned out to be a perfect fit! The embroidery design is really pretty and they’re so soft and comfy, they are now one of my favourite items in my wardrobe.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
Ok, so I never thought that there would be a sequel to Mamma Mia so when I saw the trailer I practically screamed! Mamma Mia 2 really lives up to the first movie and it’s full of so many of my favourite ABBA songs such as Angeleyes, Kisses of Fire and even Hole in Your Soul if you listen closely! I’m still kinda sad that they killed off Donna and there are quite a few plot holes that just don’t make sense, but the movie is full of so much heart, fun and laughter. This movie is honestly one of my favourites of all time and I cannot wait until it is out on DVD, so I can watch it everyday!
The Thunderbolt Pony
One of my favourite parts of this summer was having more time to read and Stacy Gregg is one of my favourite authors. I feel like this book is one of the most intense I’ve read, and I might have cried a little whilst I was reading it but oh my god it is such a great book, full of love and empowerment. Since the death of her father, Evie has been battling severe OCD, believing that if she doesn’t do everything in the right order or a certain amount of times, something bad could happen. But when an earthquake strikes Parnassus, everything changes. Evie battles the odds to save her horse Gus, her cat Moxy and her dog Jock, by travelling across the island on their own to get them to the rescue ship before it leaves the port in Kaikoura. The journey ahead may be difficult but Evie’s determination to save her beloved animals ultimately leads her to overcome her OCD.
When I was younger I used to play Sims Animals on my Nintendo DSI and it was one of my favourite games, I loved playing with all the animals, exploring the worlds and naming all my baby squirrels Paprika (I thought it was cute haha). But when I watched the Zalfie Sims series a couple of years ago, Sims 4 just looked so much fun to play! This year I also started watching more Sims 4 YouTubers such as Deligracey and Lil’Simsie and I was super inspired by their CAS and build videos, so I decided to wait until the summer to buy the game when I knew I had time to play (and I did a lot!). Now I just can’t help walking down the street, watching a tv show or flicking through Grand Designs magazine and thinking “ooh now I wanna try and build that in Sims 4”, there’s inspiration everywhere! Playing Sims 4 is one of my favourite things to do and if you love Sims too, head over to the gallery and check out some of my builds, my username is LilacCupcake4, and leave yours below if you want and I’ll check yours out too! I’m currently working on building a shopping mall, I’ve screen recorded all the stages so far and I’m thinking of making a speed build video of it so if that’s something you want to see, let me know in the comments below.
I’ve wanted a record player for a while for two reasons; 1 – because I’m a huge fan of 70’s and 80’s music so I really wanted to see what it was like to hear the music the way they did when it was released, and 2 – because they’re just so cute and aesthetic and an awesome photo prop! So, for my main birthday present I asked for a record player and I’m so so happy with it and one of my favourite things to do recently is to just chill, write blog posts and listen to my records (and occasionally get distracted and just watch them spin around and around and around)! 😂
Ilse DeLange’s New Album
I’ve been a fan of Ilse since she performed Calm After the Storm with the Common Linnets at Eurovision in 2014. This year marks 20 years since her first album was released and I have to say that her new album is definitely one of my favourites. I love it so much I asked for the vinyl for my birthday as well as the cd so that I could play it on my new record player too! I think my favourite songs off the album are Half the Love and Runaway but it’s so hard to choose as I honestly love every song on the album!
Castle is literally my favourite show of all time! I was so sad when the final episode aired, over two years ago now 😱, I just didn’t know what I was going to do without it. So, when I saw that it was being aired again from season 1 at the start of summer, I decided that my plan for the entire summer would be to rewatch all 8 seasons! And I think that was such a great plan, I’ve only made it as far as season 6 as that’s as far as the channel is at the moment but I’ve really enjoyed rewatching my favourite moments such as “the killer’s a zombie!” and all the emotional, heartwarming and funny moments again.
Flower Fairies Exhibition
This summer I had Art homework to see an exhibition or a show, so I chose to visit the Flower Fairies exhibition at the Garden Museum in London. I love Cicely Mary Barker’s artwork and it was amazing getting to see her original artwork and preparatory sketches and notes. I feel so inspired by how she designed costumes inspired by the flowers, and I’m excited to start studying her work later in the year. This is one of my favourite exhibitions I have ever seen, I just wish it was still on, so I could go back and see it again! The museum is lovely and has a really calm and relaxing atmosphere so I’m going to keep my eye out for more exciting temporary exhibitions in the future.
I hope you enjoyed reading my post! I think I may have used the word favourite far too much in this post but that is the theme of this post! What are some of your favourite things from Summer 2018?
