12 Crafts of Christmas: Day 7 Knitted Christmas Jumper

IMG_4771Today’s craft is a Christmassy knitted jumper, featuring a Christmas tree design. This jumper is sized to fit 14 inch dolls such as Glitter Girls and Wellie Wishers.

Materials:
Red 25g 4 Ply yarn
Green 25g 4 Ply yarn
2.75mm (No 12) & 3.25mm (No 10) needles

Note: As this jumper involves colourwork, font colour has been used to denote the change of yarn colour in the pattern below. For best use, please print this pattern in colour. Click here to download the free PDF knitting pattern.

Knit in one Piece from the neck down

Using 2.75mm (No 12) needles cast on 34 sts with the red yarn, beginning at centre back
Next Row: Sl 1, Knit to end.
Repeat this row 3 times

Change to 3.25mm (No10) needles and begin yoke shaping

Row 1: Sl 1, K2, K2, yf, K2, yf, K4, yf, K2, yf, K8, yf, K2, yf, K4, yf, K2, yf, K2, K3 = 42sts

Row 2: Sl 1, K2, Purl to last 3 stitches, K3

Row 3: Sl 1, K2, K3, yf, K2, yf, K6, yf, K2, yf, K4, K2, K4, yf, K2, yf, K6, yf, K2 yf, K3, K3 = 50sts                                  

Row 4: Sl 1, K2, P20, P4, P20, K3                                                                                                   

Row 5: Sl 1, K2, K4, yf, K2, yf, K8, yf, K2, yf, K3, K6, K3, yf, K2, yf, K8, yf, K2, yf, K4, K3 = 58sts

Row 6: Sl 1, K2, P22, P8, P22, K3

Row 7: Sl 1, K2, K5, yf, K2, yf, K10, yf, K2, yf, K4 ,K6, K4, yf, K2, yf, K10, yf, K2 yf, K5, K3 = 66sts

Row 8: Sl 1, K2, P26, P8, P26, K3

Row 9: Sl 1, K2, K6, yf, K2, yf, K12, yf, K2, yf, K3, K10, K3, yf, K2, yf, K12, yf, K2, yf, K6, K3 = 74sts

Row 10: Sl 1, K2, P28, P12, P28, K3

Row 12: Sl 1, K2, P32, P12, P32, K3

Row 14: Sl 1, K2, P34, P16, P34, K3

Row 20: Sl 1, K2, P44, P20, P44, K3

Row 21: Sl 1, K2, K13, Cast off 26sts, K4, K22, K4, Cast off 26sts, K13, K3 = 62sts

Join back and front as follows
Row 22: Sl 1, K2, P12, K2tog, P2, P24, P2, K2tog, P12, K2, K1 = 60sts
Row 23: Sl 1, K2, K11, kfb, kfb, K3, K22, K3, kfb, kfb, K11, K2, K1 = 64sts

Continue as follows
Row 24: Sl 1, K2, P17, P24, P17, K2, K1
Row 25: Sl 1, K2, K16, K26, K16, K2, K1
Row 26: Sl 1, K2, P15, P28, P15, K2, K1

Next Row: Sl 1, Knit to end
Sl 1, K2, Purl to last 3 stitches, K3

Garter edge at bottom of jumper as follows
Knit 4 rows
Cast off

To Make Up

  1. Fasten off all ends
  2. Sew 2 or 3 snap fasteners on to button band
  3. Finally add embellishments such as sequins and you are finished!

  3. As a teenager one of my most ‘uncool’ hobbies is to knit. I just love it so much though.

    1. Same! I rarely mention knitting when people ask my hobbies as I don’t want to seem uncool, but the other year I knitted each of my friends matching penguins for Christmas and my whole class loved them!

      1. Aww that’s a cute idea! I just finished a really chunky knit scarf. Haven’t yet ventured out into making things other than hats, scarfs and gloves lol xD
