Agh. Iβm pretty sure we all go through times of feeling lost at some point in our lives, feeling confused and not sure what to do next. Thatβs where Iβve been the past couple of weeks, so so sorry thereβs been a little gap in posting. Iβve never been that great with change. You know that feeling when youβve been looking forward to something for months and suddenly itβs gone, moved, cancelled? Eek. Iβm still figuring things out, but Iβm getting there. In case you are going through something similar now, or in the future, I thought it would be helpful to write out some of the steps that are helping me.
~Intermission~
Just thought Iβd take a moment to say, if you are actually lost and donβt know where you are;
- Open maps on your phone, click the little arrow icon, and if you have signal it will show your location
- Phone a member of your family or a friend and explain the situation
- Retrace your steps
- Ask someone for help
~Back to the post~
Ask yourself what it is that YOU want to do.
What are your dreams?
What is the end goal?
How will you get there?
What are the steps you need to take?
What do you need to learn/practice or try in order to get there?
Try brainstorming and mapping it all out, linking your ideas and breaking them down into steps.
You can then translate this into a path chart, showing each step along your journey and you can cross off each step as you complete them to track your progress.

Talk to someone about it.
Have a chat with someone to discuss how youβre feeling, this could be a family member, friend or teacher. They can help you to see it from a different perspective and help you to figure out what to do next. If itβs about a specific subject try and find someone who specialises in that, either near you or through social media. This can really help if you’re trying to learn something new or figure out how to get into a certain career as you can ask for tips.
Review your work.
Look back at what you have already done, flick through your books and sketchbooks, and note down what you did well and what you could improve. This can help you to figure out what your strong points are and what you need to focus on, you may find it also helps to create a portfolio or a mood-board of your work so you can see it more visually, and it can be handy to have around when it comes to interviewing for courses or jobs in the future.
I hope some of these tips help, if you have any more please comment below, Iβd really appreciate it π. If you think about it a lot of the steps are pretty similar to those you would take when you are actually lost, and I think if you think about it that way it can really help to start to break it down and figure it out.
Iβm currently aiming to post weekly, on Saturdays at 4pm GMT, with a mixture of craft, sewing and knitting tutorials, book reviews, baking recipes and more!
