12 Crafts of Christmas 2021: Day 6 Doodled Gift Tags

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re having a lovely weekend; I can’t believe we’re halfway through 12 Crafts of Christmas already, and there’s only 1 week to go until Christmas day!

For today’s craft I’m going to show you some doodle design ideas to jazz up your gift tags. I think gift tags are essential for two reasons, so you remember who the present is for and so you remember who to say thank you too! In my family we often keep the gift tags as a memento for example if the gift is a book, we’ll use the gift tag as a bookmark just for that specific book.

Instead of buying new gift tags, this year I’m reusing cardboard from packaging to make my own gift tags, so in today’s post I’m going to show you how you can make some too!

You will need:

  • White card
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Colour markers such as Crayola Supertips
  • Black fine liner pen
  • Whole punch
  • Ribbon or string

For my gift tags I am using square sheets of white card that came inside shirts and pjs I’ve bought in the past. The first thing to do is mark out how big you’d like your tags to be, they can be any shape, and if you’d like circular bauble themed gift tags a good tip is to draw around the rim of a glass or mug. This time I chose to make rectangular gift tags as it seemed to best fit the design ideas I had in my head, so I measured the card with the ruler and marked a line vertically halfway across and three lines horizontally to divide it into quarters to make 8 gift tags.

My first design is inspired by Christmas lights. I began by drawing a loose line across the gift tag with the fineliner.

Next, using Crayola Supertips I added little teardrop shapes along the line to represent the coloured lights.

My second design is inspired by a Christmas tree. For this design I began by drawing a line for the trunk of the tree using the fineliner.

I then added branches coming off of the trunk and small dashes along the branches to represent the fir needles of the Christmas tree.

After that I coloured along the branches in the same direction as the dashes using a green Crayola Supertip, and finally added a yellow star at the top of the tree.

To finish the tags I punched a holes in the corner using a hole punch and threaded a loop of ribbon through. Then I added the text, this year I chose to use mini alphabet stamps from Hobbycraft to spell out ‘Merry Christmas’ and I love the handmade scrapbook effect of the stamps.

I hope you enjoyed today’s craft! Let me know in the comments below which design was your favourite and I hope to see you back here again for the next craft.

  3. They’re so cute and Christmassy! 🎄 Love how everything needed for these crafts can just be found lying around, normally if I want to make something there’s always at least one thing that’d have to be outsourced so it never happens 🤣

    1. Thank you! I’ve been trying to find crafts that can be made from things that are easily accessible such as card and packaging etc. 💗
