There’s only 3 days left until Christmas, this week is going so fast! For today’s craft I’m going to show you how to make an easy to sew felt ornament with a simple snowflake embroidery to add to your Christmas tree.
You will need:
- A sheet of felt
- Embroidery floss or thread
- Sewing needle
First carefully cut out your template and pin to the felt. You will need to cut two, one for the front and one for the back. Click here if you would like to use my star and heart template, or my gingerbread man and house template from earlier this week.
Carefully cut out your felt shapes with the scissors.
Find the centre of your front felt shape and sew a vertical line of 10 small stitches through. At a 60° angle sew another line of 10 stitches crossing through the centre point. Finally sew another line of 10 stitches intersecting the centre at 120°.
On the last two stitches of each of the 6 lines, stitch a small V.
Then two stitches from the centre on each line, stitch a small stitch coming halfway between that line and the next, on the circumference line of the first stitches at the centre, to create a six-pointed star inside your snowflake.
If you would like to, repeat the embroidery on the other felt shape.
Fold the ribbon in half and stitch the two ends to the top of the inside of the back felt shape, so that the ends of the ribbon will be enclosed inside the finished ornament.
Place the felt shapes together so that the insides are touching and start sewing a blanket stitch around the edge, once you have stitched about ¾ around the shape, add some stuffing to the inside of the felt to make a little cushion then complete the blanket stitch so that it meets your first blanket stitch.
I hope you enjoyed today’s craft!
Stay safe and best wishes,
